Speaking of Pathfinders…[Update]

Looks like I’ll have to eat my words. He pulled it off!

This looks like suicide.

Perhaps I’m being cynical, but I expect his device to explode mid-flight, or for him to veer off out of control into the side of a mountain.

But it’s another good example of what my previous post was talking about.

I’ve spoken with a couple of my advanced-degree educated female friends since then (hence, no knee-jerk ZOMG YOU’RE BEING SEXIST bs to wade through [actually, that's not fair. Lots of highly educated people give knee-jerk responses all the time]). One admitted that there seemed to be a trend in her own observations as well, in her own sphere of existence, psychology, and chalked it up to the kid factor (the destroyer of careers), while the other suggested that the shackles of societal influence may be more difficult to cast aside than one would think.

But, just as another disclaimer, I specifically speak of the “pathfinding” subset. There are tons of women out there doing as well or better than their male equivalents in existing fields. I am aware.

On another note, I think I may have finally thought of an example: Augusta Ada Byron King, Countess of Lovelace. Hawt.

I’m being kinda vague on my requirements, because I myself don’t really know, but I think she meets them.
